Make Windows XP Start Faster
16 August 2007

Most of the time you install an application in Windows XP, it adds an entry to the list of programs which autostart when Windows XP boots up. As time progresses, this list keeps on growing making Windows XP boot slow.

The solution
SysInternals Autorun is a nifty utility to track down the notorious programs which run at start-up and slow down the booting of Windows XP.

This utility, which has the most comprehensive knowledge of auto-starting locations of any startup monitor, shows you what programs are configured to run during system bootup or login, and shows you the entries in the order Windows processes them. These programs include ones in your startup folder, Run, RunOnce, and other Registry keys.

It also has an option to hide signed Microsoft entries to help you to zoom in on third-party auto-starting images that have been added to your system.

If you want to disable an auto-start entry uncheck its check box. To delete an auto-start configuration entry use the Delete menu item or toolbar button.

So go ahead and make your Windows XP faster..
